We are located 20km (12mi) east of Terrace Bay Ontario, 60 km (36mi) West of Marathon. A great stop over, conveniently located along Hwy 17 the Circle Tour Route of Lake Superior. Jackfish Lakes takes its name from the neighboring ghost town of Jackfish. Founded in 1890. It was in Jackfish that the MacKellar family, assisted by two Natives, staked property in 1871, which is believed to be the first gold discovered in Northwestern Ontaro. Jackfish Lake is actually one of the many beautiful bays of Lake Superior. Terry Fox swam in Jackfish Lake before continuing his Maraton of Hope. This sandy beach is dubbed the Terry Fox Beach. Our area is surrounded by numerous lakes, rivers and streams a great spot for fishing, hunting , canoeing, kayaking, picture taking and blueberry picking. Jackfish is where the last connecting spike was driven, connecting the railroads in eastern and western Canada. Take a walk around Sawmill Lake in the back or to Jackfish beach in the front. Pebble beach of Lake Superior is just 3 or 4 min drive , always a spectacular view. For canoe enthusiasts we have a drop off and pick up service for the Steel River run as mentioned in one of Kevin Callan's newer books "Lost Canoe Routes." You can also charter Winter Dream Charter's for tours of the Slate Island's. Come relax in one of our most comfortable well kept untis, 3pc bath, satelite t.v. Fridge, stove mocrowave, coffee maker and excellent drinking water. Enjoy a relaxing authentic Finnish sauna. Browse the gift and amethyst shop. We have very reasonable daily and weekly rates.
